Hair and makeup tutorial

Below is a video discussing the typical hair and makeup for women in the 1700s.

Hair: Women who were middle or lower class in Islandmagee in the 1700s would simply have owned a brush. The use of the brush was to make sure that their hair was kept tidy. In these days, women were expected to cover their hair with some form of hat. These women from islandmagee would have worn white cotton bonnets to hide their hair. In this video my teammate explains how we are hoping to create our own cotton white bonnet for filming and if we are unable to do this, we will find a quick and effective alternative. It was typical of women, particularly Irish women, to braid their hair at this time and therefore we are planning to have our actress braid her hair for the opening sequence. The protagonist is going to have red hair to symbolise the Irish theme as red hair is normally associated with being Irish.
We will also have to make sure that our actress' hair is of natural length and colour which means no out-of-the-ordinary hairstyle and no hair dye.

Makeup: Women in the 18th century Ireland would not have been able to own any make-up unless they were upper class. As our protagonist is most clearly not upper class we will not be using a lot of make-up. Our actress will either not wear any make-up or will only be allowed to film while wearing minimal make-up that looks extremely natural.
