Storyboard

1)  0:00-0:10 Our opening sequence will begin with the Irish Film Board ident (IFB). We did research on filming companies and realised that this would be the production company that we would be most likely to pitch our film to as it is a local company and is in-keeping with our film style. A orchestral instrumental soundtrack would start in sync with this.

 2) 0:10-0:20  After the IFB ident, would be our own company's ident that we have named 'Bronze Age Films'. We plan to make our own ident for this using a number of softwares. Normally for a period drama there would be a number of filming companies working on it but only the main companies would be featured in the beginning of the title sequence. The company name is something that we believe would be associated with Ireland and history and would therefore be ideal in representing our film.

3) 0:20-0:25 After this we would give some historical insight. This would not be unusual to occur at the beginning of a period drama and in fact, it is most times necessary to do so. The first lines will be "The Islandmagee witch trial took place in 1710-1711…" This would be in small white text that we would position off centre on a black background as it would be clear cut, simple and would therefore stand out. During this the audience would start to hear the asynchronous sounds of nature, trudging and crying.

4) 0:25-0:30 We would start to fade in more text gradually before fading the slide out to show the very first shot.

4) 0:30-0:40 The very first shot is seen and it is a medium shot of our protagonist who is running through the woods while she is crying. In her hands is her letter of conviction of witchcraft.

5) 0:40-0:45 This shot is then interjected by another black slide that fades in. This type of fade is shown in The Duchess and many other period dramas. This time, the text is "Islandmagee is now known as Northern Ireland", which will give the audience some
geographical background and give them a better understanding of the incident.

6) 0:45-0:50  Another line will then fade in, this time saying "The Islandmagee witch trial was the last witch trial that Northern Ireland ever saw". I believe that this line gives a lot more importance to the story as it proves just how significant these exact events in the witch trial were. Finally, the last slide of historical background will fade out, giving way to the real shots.

7) 0:50-1:00 The audience are then presented with a long shot that emphasises location and diastase as well as the loneliness of the protagonist. The protagonist is seen running towards some ancient Irish ruins, still crying and holding the letter of conviction.
The credits are a constant, positioned strategically around the frame.

8) 1:00-1:10 There is a medium shot from behind the protagonist now...

9) 1:05-1:20 There is a 15 second constant pan from the wall where the ruins end, right across to the window. The
audience can now see the protagonist again which is shown in the sketch above. The speeds will start to slow down once the protagonist is in view of the camera, but however, it will start to speed up again when we can see the wall.

10) 1:20-1:40 "The Fall" This is essentially a medium shot from a side on view that shows how the protagonist has fallen in the mud. She then drops the letter she was holding and starts to sob profusely. Showing this situation from this particular shot will provoke empathy and pathos from our audience which will therefore set an emotional depth from the very start.

11) 1:40-1:50 Now, there is an over-the-shoulder shot, This shows the protagonist picking up the letter of conviction. We may possibly decide to have a close up on her hand so that we can see what is written in the letter, otherwise there will be a narrative. We are not sure yet which one of these would be the most convenient in terms of time and effect.

12) 1:50-2:00 There is now a high angle show which shows the desperation of the protagonist. She may possibly begin to seem somewhat pathetic and helpless which will provoke empathy from the audience.

13) 2:00 The main movie title is yet to be decided but will most likely be plain and simple. It will be shown at the  end of the opening sequence.
